Q: I had a duplicate key made at a hardware store and it doesn't work, why?
A non working duplicate key could be due to a "key machine" not being calibrated. If you get a duplicate made at a hardware store or at a box store, chances are their machines are not as well kept as they should be. Locksmiths calibrate their machines once to twice a month to make the duplicate keys will come out as close to the original key as possible.
Q: How would you define a safe lock?
The best way to determine the safety of a lock would be to assess whether the cylinder is safe or not. 90% of locks on the market can actually be picked. Manufacturers are hard at work trying to figure out how to make their locks more resistant.
Q: Should I add a double sided dead bolt (key on both sides) on the exterior doors of my property, is it safe?
Double sided deadbolts are generally found on glass doors so that if someone breaks the glass they will not be able to simply open the door from the inside. Rental properties are usually not permitted to have double sided dead bolt locks because of fire codes. The laws may differ from state to state but private properties should be legally allowed to use double sided dead bolts.

Q: Is it that easy to copy my key to my house?
Unfortunately, yes. Most house keys have a code on them which could be translated into the making of an original key if stolen by a stranger. This could leave you vulnerable to theft. Medeco locks are meant to reduce the likelihood of that happening.
Q: I just moved into a new Apartment / Home /Commercial Building, should I re-key the locks? The keys work well.
It is highly recommended to re key the locks on a new property. It is a possibility a contractor or a realtor may have copies of your property. Re keying is the cheapest way to protect you home.
Q: I have two or three different keys that go to my property, can I make one key work everything?
Absolutely, it is actually a life improvement. The days of stumbling in the dark trying to find the right key for 2 different locks are over. Re keying is fairly easy and we will replace your locks if your specific situation calls for it.
Q: I would like 1 key that works all the locks on my house and 1 key that my Gardner can use to get into one gate and nothing else, is this possible?
The answer is: Yes. We call it having your locks master keyed. If your locks are all the same brand, we can make one or two locks have their own separate key for any maintenance people that may need access to your home. That would only enable them to get into designated doors while the property owner would still be able to get into any lock with one simple key.
Q: What are High Security Locks (with Restricted Keys) and why should I consider putting them on my property?
High security locks are highly recommended, although they can be more expense, they are more than worth it. They are designed to prevent key duplication, lock picking and they are actually drill resistant. Investing in good locks is a one time investment and if you are planning to live in the same property for a long time, it is highly recommended.
Q: Is it really necessary to use a professional locksmith company?
Yes. A professional locksmith would have the necessary knowledge in locks and what's safest for your home. Installing a lock is more complicated than one would think. Adjustments to your door frame could be needed to maximize the life spent of your locks. Proper installation could potentially avoid future problems as well.
Q: Can I schedule a specific time for a Locksmith to meet me?
Time is precious and we strive to be on point when it comes down to our appointment times. We will always let our clients know if we encounter difficulties but we will at the very least keep you informed and offer you to reschedule the appointment if you are in a hurry.
Q: Why do I have to fidget with my keys in the lock in order to make them work?
This could be due to the lock mechanism and small internal parts wearing out. We tend to wiggle our keys inside the cylinder in order to get the door opened but a locksmith can easily resolve that problem and make your life simple.
Q: I have a key marked “Do Not Duplicate.” Can I get a copy of it anyway?
Keys marked “Do Not Duplicate, “Do Not Copy” or “Unlawful to Copy” must be accompanied with an authorization letter from the owner requesting duplication. Some locksmiths and kiosks may be willing to copy these keys for an extra fee but it is unlawful.
